City of Kangasala

Mielen huoli mental health line discussions reduced absences at the City of Kangasala.

The City of Kangasala has offered the Mielen huoli mental health line as part of occupational health services since January 2022. Along with other measures, the Mielen huoli discussions have helped reduce absences due to mental health issues among employees at the City of Kangasala.

With Pihlajalinna’s Mielen huoli service, employees can contact the mental health line with a low threshold whenever they are worried about something. Employees can contact Mielen huoli in matters related to their mood, coping or living a good life in general. If necessary, the customer is instructed to contact the occupational health team.

The process starts with an initial discussion in which the situation is reviewed and potential further measures are planned. If necessary, a longer appointment is made to continue the discussion with a Mielen huoli nurse or with the employee’s own occupational health team. We recommend getting in touch as early as possible so that the ability to act and quality of life remain as good as possible.

The Mielen huoli mental health line is open on business days from 8 am to 6 pm by telephone or in the chat in Pihlajalinna’s Terveyssovellus app. You can also make an appointment with a Mielen huoli nurse through Pihlajalinna’s online booking service.

The Mielen huoli mental health line has been useful for the City of Kangasala. In 2022, absences due to mental health issues reduced at the City of Kangasala.

“We have received positive feedback for the service from our employees. They have appreciated the speed of service and low threshold,” says HR Manager Eija Tetri-Lähde.

In the past years, employees in the municipal sector have been burdened by the intense changes in their operating environment. In addition to work, challenges in one’s private life might cause further stress, just like in any other sector. In 2023, the City of Kangasala received the Hyvän mielen työpaikka (“Mentally healthy workplace”) badge from MIELI Mental Health Finland for the second time as a sign of work carried out to promote mental health as an employer.

The City of Kangasala employees who have utilised the Mielen huoli service have told Pihlajalinna that they now have more energy at work. They are very satisfied with the quick help and support they have received.

“Good, cleansing discussions. Good and clear encounters.”

“A quick answer to the need for help.”

“I feel relieved after getting to unload what was on my mind. Life is much lighter now.”

“I can sleep and function better than before.”

“I have learnt ways to view things and to act differently.”

“I have learnt to accept insecurities and to listen to my thoughts and emotions with an accepting mind.”

“In particular, I gained readiness for changes as well as the ability to inspect myself and my feelings.”

“I gained hope.”
